Panel Will Not Carry Own Probe Into Fatal Shooting Of Teen

PUTRAJAYA, April 30 (Bernama) -- The special panel set up following the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old teenager in Shah Alam on Monday, will monitor police investigations into the case and not involve in the probe itself, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wira Abu Seman Yusop said.

Abu Seman, who heads the panel, said it would make sure investigations were carried out fairly and in a transparent manner.

Eight individuals would be appointed to the panel including Home Ministry Deputy Secretary-General (Security) Datuk Ahmad Fuad Abdul Aziz as the deputy chairman, he said.

Panel members would comprise independent individuals who have no connection with any political party or the police, he said.

"We expect to have our first meeting next week," he told a news conference.

In the 2am incident, Aminulrasyid Amzah, a student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seksyen 9, Shah Alam, was fatally shot after he allegedly reversed the car he was driving into police officers while trying to escape a road block.

Abu Seman said the panel would act as an independent body to look into the way the case was investigated.

"The public will know the result of the investigation," he said.

He also called for an end to speculations over the case. "We don't want any party to speculate and to create issues. We have also asked police to speed up their investigations," he said.
