SINGAPORE - The Romanian Embassy in Singapore has told the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and the Singapore Attorney-General's Chambers that Romanian representatives to the joint working group will be here from May 26 to 29, and would like to interview a list of witnesses in the case of former charge d'affaires, Dr Silviu Ionescu.
Responding to media queries, MFA yesterday said Singapore's Special Envoy to Romania, Ambassador Anil Kumar Nayar, had informed the Romanian Foreign Ministry's Secretary of State Doru Costea that Singapore was ready to accommodate the visit "despite the very short notice given".
Mr Nayar also explained that as May 28 was Vesak Day, a religious public holiday, the Romanian officials would have only one working day to hear from the available witnesses, and should be prepared to stay for a longer period.
MFA also sent a third-person note to the Romanian Foreign Ministry requesting urgent confirmation of the dates of the visit, so it can facilitate the Romanian officials' work here.
MFA is awaiting a response from the Romanians. Link
