ROCHESTER, N.Y., March 22 (UPI) -- New York State Police said they were still searching Tuesday for missing Rochester Institute of Technology student George Delany, 21.
Between 50 and 60 people were combing a four-mile area in Steuben County between the spot where Delany's car was found and the cell tower where his cell phone registered its last ping March 12, the Rochester (N.Y.) Democrat and Chronicle reported.
The area where Delany disappeared is mountainous with a fairly thick wooded area.
"We hope he's alive and well and somewhere safe," said Trooper Mark O'Donnell.
He said the search will go on "until we've covered the area completely and thoroughly and then we'll evaluate the next step".
Delany is from Fredericksburg, Md.
Students at RIT planned a rally in support of search efforts at 5 p.m. Tuesday. UPI
