Luzhkov deputy resigns

Moscow's acting mayor, Vladimir Resin, said on Wednesday he had accepted the resignation of one of former mayor Yury Luzhkov's deputies.
A criminal case against Alexander Ryabinin was opened in March.
Ryabinin, who chaired Moscow City Hall's Control Committee and oversaw the lucrative construction sector in the city, was accused of abuse of office in obtaining property assets.
The decision to launch a criminal case against him was later annulled.
Luzhkov, 74, who was fired on Tuesday after weeks of speculation about his worsening relations with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and his imminent dismissal or resignation, had on numerous occasions spoken out in defense of Ryabinin.
