Russia will become a regular member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summits from 2011 onwards, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday.
"The summit has made an official decision to invite the presidents of Russian and the United States to become regular members of the ASEAN summits from next year onwards," Lavrov told journalists after the Russia-ASEAN summit in the Vietnamese capital of Hanoi.
ASEAN summits include 10 ASEAN member states (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam), as well as China, Japan, South Korea, India, Australia and New Zealand.
