DHAKA, Bangladesh, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- A collision between passenger trains claimed at least 21 lives in Bangladesh Wednesday, witnesses said.
Nineteen people died at the scene in the Narsingdi district, 35 miles northeast of Dhaka, and two others in a hospital, Xinhua reported, citing a local news agency, UNB. Hundreds were injured, and the death toll may mount.
Bangladesh Railway Director General T.A. Chowdhury told Xinhua a four-member committee has been formed to investigate whether the crash was accidental or caused by sabotage.
The army has joined the rescue operation along with police, fire brigades and the Red Crescent. UPI
