Uniquely Singapore docks

NINE yachts competing in the round-the-world Clipper Race sailed into Singapore's Keppel Bay Marina on Saturday, to cheers and confetti.

It was an especially meaningful welcome for one of the sleek boats - Uniquely Singapore, the Republic's entry for the biennial international yachting competition.

Perched atop its 10m-high mast, Singaporean crew member Nicole Ho cheerily waved at the hundreds of well-wishers.

'It is so good to be home,' said Ms Ho, 35, who is the only Singaporean doing all seven legs of the race.

Singapore is currently in seventh place. The boats, currently on their journey's second leg, had travelled from Australia to Batam, where they rested for a week before heading to Singapore.

This year's race started from the Humber river in England last September, and is due to finish at the same spot in July this year.
