Brit Arrested in Pattaya with Massive Haul of Pirate DVD’s


Early on Tuesday morning Pattaya Crime Suppression police successfully apprehended a British national in possession of over 500 pirate DVD’s concealed in the tray of his pickup parked at the Jomtien Palm Beach Hotel.

Pattaya, the 30th of March 2010 [PDN]: At approximately 1:30am on Tuesday, police Colonel Akkharadet Pimonsri (Crime Suppression Superintendent) along with a team of officers instigated a sting operation on a known individual who had been suspected of selling counterfeit DVD’s in the Pattaya area.
Arriving at the agreed meeting point, the Jomtien Palm Beach Hotel, police arrested Mr. Robert Newton [64] in possession of a massive haul of illegally copied merchandise. Mr. Newton had become known to police after several reports had begun to surface regarding a foreign man selling pirate DVD’s in the Pattaya and Jomtien area. Recently it became known to police that Mr. Newton was also advertising his illegal business with an unnamed English language Pattaya Newspaper.
A police search of the evidence, concealed within Mr. Newtons maroon Nissan Frontier Pickup, revealed the presence of 599 counterfeit DVD’s, 30 advertising leaflets and a DVD player. Upon questioning, Mr. Newton admitted to being the owner of the illegal merchandise, explaining that he had personally copied the DVD’s himself before selling them onto various customers.
Mr. Newton was subsequently arrested by police and taken to the Pattaya police station where he will be detained prior to the commencement of further judicial proceedings.
