A 15-year-old on her way home from school foiled an attempted abduction in Melbourne's outer east yesterday by threatening to phone police, say investigators.
Police said the girl was walking along Surrey Road, Croydon about 3.15pm when she was approached from behind by a man driving a car who offered her a lift home.
As she continued east the vehicle drew level with her and the driver asked the girl to get into the car.
Police said the man asked the girl a second time, prompting her to threaten to call police and take her mobile phone from her bag.
The action discouraged her pursuer who drove away.
According to police, the victim was unable to provide a description of the man or the car because she had her head down in fear during the incident
When the girl arrived home, she told her parents about the the ordeal. Her parents subsequently reported the incident to police.
It is the third attempted abduction of a school girl in Victoria in recent weeks.
The first attack occurred in Shepparton on February 23, while last week a schoolgirl fended off two men in a white van in Brighton East.
