6 dead in Italy train derailment

Rome, Italy (CNN) -- A landslide derailed a train in northern Italy Monday killing at least six people and injuring 20 others, the Civil Protection Agency said.
Fire officials earlier put the number of dead at seven.
The crash took place where tracks cross a narrow gorge near the city of Merano, police in the nearby city of Bolzano told CNN.
Marco Imariso, a local journalist, told CNN: "It happened in a steep valley... the train was hit on the right hand side...it is now lying on its side. The police said 3 or 4 [of the injured] are in a very very serious condition".
Italy's civil protection agency is expected to release more information later Monday morning.
