Uganda Government News: Dr. Otunnu snubs police summons again

The President of Uganda Peoples’ Congress Dr. Olara Otunu has vowed not to appear before the Criminal Investigations Department.

Otunnu was today expected at the CID headquarters in Kampala for questioning over statements he allegedly made recently in Lira accusing President Museveni of having supported the LRA rebels in Northern Uganda and alleged promotion of sectarianism.

Otunnu who received fresh summons on Thursday evening (yesterday) after snubbing police summons last week has instead sent his lawyer, Elias Lukwago.

After a meeting with the CID Deputy Director, Moses Sakira, lawyer Lukwago maintained that the summons did not constitute any criminal offence, adding that his client has the right to express his views on matters concerning this country.

The spokesperson of police Judith Nabakoba now says they will continue with investigations before they agree on the next course of action.

Otunnu insists that he has no case to answer. He also insists that he has evidence to back his allegations.
