KABUL (Reuters) - Afghanistan's intelligence department said on Thursday it had captured a Taliban shadow governor believed to have been behind at least two deadly attacks.
Since being ousted in a U.S.-led invasion in 2001, the Taliban have appointed several shadow governors responsible attacking and harassing authorities and foreign troops in the country.
The intelligence department said in a statement that during questioning, Mullah Gulistan acknowledged being Taliban's "governor" for northern Samangan province.
The Taliban was not immediately available for comment about the report, which comes months after the arrests in Pakistan of two other Taliban shadow governors as well as Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the militants' number two. >>>
