Amla and Kallis shine for tourists

Hashim Amla and Jacques Kallis came within touching distance of centuries as South Africa posted 300 for five in the second one-day international against West Indies at North Sound.
The tourists, who won the first ODI at the same venue two days ago, got useful contributions from each of the top five but it was Amla (92) and Kallis (85) who provided the bulk of the runs.
Amla was the chief aggressor early on, plundering successive fours off Ravi Rampaul in typically wristy fashion.
Graeme Smith (37) brought up the Proteas' 50 with a single into the leg side, but his predilection for leg-side strokeplay proved his undoing as he was bowled attempting to sweep a full delivery from Nikita Miller with the score on 89.
Amla brought up his half-century the next ball, and Kallis announced his arrival at the crease with a punched four past cover off Miller.
Boundaries were proving hard to come by, but Amla claimed a rare four courtesy of a thick edge off Chris Gayle and seemed to be heading for a century before presenting a simple chance to Dale Richards at short mid-wicket off Jerome Taylor.
AB de Villiers narrowly survived a run-out appeal as he took two off his first ball, then smashed Gayle for six before taking the Proteas to 200 with a couple of boundaries off Rampaul.
Kallis moved to 49 with just his second boundary, an expansive drive backward of square, then tucked away a single for his half-century.
Wicketkeeper De Villiers (41) flayed another four off Rampaul, but struggled to pierce the infield thereafter and fell to Kieron Pollard as he failed to clear long off.
David Miller (26 not out), playing just his second one-day international, drove Dwayne Bravo for six and did likewise off Taylor in the final over, but in between South Africa lost Kallis, who had begun to accelerate, and Alviro Petersen as West Indies kept things manageable in the closing overs.
