CFK skipping Colón re-inauguration clusters clashing voices

After President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner sparked controversy yesterday when she assured she would not be attending the re-inauguration of the Teatro Colón on May 24, several voices have been clashing on the matter. Fernández de Kirchner stated, through a letter, that to be present would mean to carry on a "cynicism and hypocrisy" attitude, Buenos Aires city Mayor Mauricio Macri asked for her to "think about what she said". Now Cabinet Chief Aníbal Fernández and Buenos Aires city Chief of Staff Horacio Rodríguez Larreta state their opinions in a see-sawed debate.

Yesterday, the President had stated: "Politics cannot be, nor should it be, a ceremony for cynicism and hypocrisy." On the issue, Cabinet Chief Aníbal Fernández cleared out all doubts: "The President won't be attending the inauguration for she is aware of the mayor's aggressive attitude towards the Government".

Fernández's statements come as a ratification of what the Head of State had said yesterday. The Cabinet Chief explained it: "The time has come for Cristina Fernández de Kirchner to put everything in its right place, for she has faced several attacks coming from Macri".

According to Aníbal Fernández's view, "Macri's city administration has been tackled any conflict. After he was prosecuted on the wiretapping case, "his way of acting has become widely known, he has been blaming everyone to confront Néstor Kirchner and the President," the Cabinet Chief concluded.

On the other hand, some voices defend Macri's stance. Such as Buenos Aires city Chief of Staff Horacio Rodríguez Laterra's: he backed Macri's request for Fernández de Kirchner to "reconsider her decision" and assured that the President "is still in time to change her mind" and eventually attend the opening.

"I'm not sure if they were looking for a reason not to attend," Rodríguez Larreta went on to say. And deepen his thoughts: "We should be able top out differences aside for one of the most important parts of the Bicentenary celebrations".

What came out of the unexpected and triggered the controversy was Fernández de Kirchner's way of assuring she was to skip the Colón rei-inauguration, scheduled for May 24. She stated: "Unfortunately, the attitude that you have taken after certain events took place within your administration and with certain designated employees, as the head of the city's government, and the unbelievable chain of events that have taken place throughout the last week, leading to public manifestations that are personally disqualifying, all mark a limit that I am not willing to cross".

And added: "Enjoy May 24 yourself, without any interruptions".

Afterwards, Buenos Aires city mayor replied the letter and request her to "think it all over" and to "leave the political differences aside on the nigh of the re-inauguration". >>>
