Irish premier Brian Cowen has said he looked forward to meeting Prime Minister David Cameron to build on the good relationships established between successive Irish and British governments.
The leaders of Ireland's three main parties wished both Mr Cameron and Liberal Democrats leader Nick Clegg well as they form a new Government, and paid tribute to departed PM Gordon Brown.
The Taoiseach said Mr Brown was "a very good friend of Ireland" and he added: "I'll also take the opportunity of wishing Mr Cameron and Mr Clegg well in the formation of the new government.
