A decree stripping ousted Kyrgyz president Kurmanbek Bakiyev of his presidential immunity has not yet been signed, a spokesman for the Kyrgyz interim government said on Monday.
The Kyrgyz interim authorities were discussing a draft decree to dismiss Bakiyev from his presidential post and lift his presidential immunity during a meeting in late April which took place behind closed doors. The outsed Kyrgyz leader, who fled the Central Asian republic amid a bloody unrest in early April and is currently taking refuge in Belarus, has refused to resign.
The draft decree, proposed by interim Deputy Prime Minister Azimbek Beknazarov, stipulates that Bakiyev should be captured and sent back to Kyrgyzstan for prosecution.
"The final variant of the decree is currently being considered by the interim government's head," Farid Niyazov said, adding some articles of the decree "required elaboration".
In late April, the Kyrgyz Prosecutor General's Office charged nine former top officials in connection with the violent April 7 crackdown on demonstrators in Bishkek, which claimed the lives of more than 80 people and left about 1,500 others injured.
The officials, including Bakiyev, his son and brother, are accused of murder and abuse of office.
