Ethiopians Hold Rally To Celebrate Peaceful Election, Denounce Criticisms

APA-Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) Over 200,000 people held a rally in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa on Tuesday to celebrate the peaceful completion of Sunday’s election and to defend criticisms by the Human Rights Watch, that the election was held with a combination of harassment.

The rally was called after the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) issues on Monday evening a provisional result, in which the ruling party was declared to be leading in all regions of the country.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi who addressed the rally congratulated his supporters and declared that the election was free, air and independent.

Meles said that the opposition parties who have not obtained victory in the election should look into themselves why they are not winning.

“This is an opportunity for the opposition parties to look into themselves and question why people have not voted for them. We hope they will correct it for the coming election,” said Meles.

He said that his government is ready to work with the opposition parties who are complaining about the fairness of the election. Link
