Information available to Myjoyonline.com indicates that the Ghana Senior High School in Tamale has been closed down for two weeks.
The closure has been necessitated by student rioting Sunday night.
The students were protesting the seizure of their mobile phones and demands for what they claim are unapproved charges by school authorities.
The police who were called in to save the situation had to fire teargas resulting in the hospitalization of 10 students.
Sixteen other students were arrested for their alleged roles in the disturbances.
The Metropolitan Security Committee and the school’s authorities met and issued a joint statement at 2pm Monday, closing down the school for 2pm.
Joy FM’s Northern Regional Correspondent, Mahama Shaibu refuted claims that the school was closed early Monday.
