An armed robber who held up a betting shop was foiled by an off-duty garda.
A young man entered the Ladbrokes bookmakers in Littlepace, north west Dublin at around 3.15pm on Friday and approached staff with a suspected shotgun.
An off-duty detective garda who was in the shop at the time wrestled with the attacker and managed to disarm him.
The would-be robber then fled the scene of the botched raid empty-handed.
No shots were fired and several other customers in the bookmakers at the time were not harmed.
The man is described as aged between 18 and 26 years old, of slim build with short, light brown hair.
He was wearing a grey coloured checked hooded top, navy tracksuit bottoms and white running shoes.
Detectives have asked for witnesses to contact Blanchardstown Garda Station.
