Rostowski Attends Emergency Summit in Brussels to Defend Euro

Polish Finance Minister Jacek Rostowski attended a EU Extraordinary Ecofin Council Meeting in Brussels, Belgium, on May 9, to discuss a mechanism to deal with euro risk situations.

The ministers pledged to stop a sovereign debt crisis from shattering confidence in the euro as they held the Brussels meeting to hammer out a lending mechanism for deficit-stricken nations .

Europe’s failure to contain Greece’s fiscal crisis triggered a 4.3% drop in the euro last week.

The size of the stabilization fund - 750 billion euros - to be made up of money borrowed by the EU’s central authorities with guarantees by national governments was disclosed on Monday morning.
