GOVERNMENT MPs are in no mood to change leaders before the next election despite concern about Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's personal performance, bad poll results and the ongoing damage being inflicted by the mining tax stoush.
A survey of the government backbench by The Sunday Agefound only a tiny handful of Labor MPs admitted they would back Julia Gillard over Kevin Rudd if a leadership spill were to happen before the federal election.
The result suggests speculation a challenge could happen as soon as this week if poll results for Labor do not improve has been overhyped. Kevin Rudd will almost certainly remain leader until after the next election.
