AngloGold, Gold Fields S.Africa operations shut over safety

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - Gold production by South African companies AngloGold Ashanti and Gold Fields was disrupted following accidents at separate mines.
AngloGold, the world's third-largest gold miner, last week partially suspended operations at its Moab Khotsong mine after a worker was killed when rocks fell on him.
Media reports on Monday said the group had halted all drilling and blasting at the mine after the fatal accident. AngloGold officials were not available to comment.
Gold Fields, the world's No. 4 gold producer, said on Monday it had partially shut a shaft at its Driefontein mine after seven workers were injured in rock falls caused by tremors.
Gold Fields spokesman Sven Lunsche said the partial closure had affected a small portion of the mine's output.
