At least 28 killed when bus plunges into ravine in Bolivia

(CNN) -- At least 28 people died and at least 44 were injured when a bus plunged off a highway and into a ravine in Bolivia Sunday, state media said.
Preliminary police reports indicate that brake problems on the bus, which was carrying 70 passengers, may have caused the accident, state-run Radio Patria Nueva reported.
The bus driver tried to flee after the crash, but police arrested him and submitted him to a breathalyzer test, the report from Radio Patria Nueva said.
Survivors told police that the bus helper asked passengers to move to the back of the bus because of problems with the brakes, according to the report.
Cochabamba Police Col. Hernan Trujillo told state media that 17 children were among the dead and wounded.
The crash occurred on a highway between Potosi and Cochabamba. Thirteen people died in another crash on the same road Thursday, Radio Patria Nueva said.
