Ethiopia, Japan sign over 10.5 mln USD grant agreement

Addis Ababa, June 25 (WIC) – Ethiopia and Japan today signed a grant agreement amounting to 10.54 million USD for the implementation of the operation and maintenance of trunk road from Goha Tsion—Dejen across Abay gorge project. 

The agreement was signed by Ahmed Shide, Finance and Economic Development State Minister, and Kinichi Komano, Ambassador of Japan to Ethiopia, on behalf of their respective governments.  

Ahmed on the occasion said that the grant will help to prevent the landslide problems in Abay gorge due to geological and topographical nature of the area.  

He said the Japanese aid to this critical road illustrates Japanese efforts and willingness to support Ethiopia’s development efforts.    

Ambassador of Japan to Ethiopia Kinichi Komano on his part said, the project, through supplying equipment to upgrade the capacity of the Ethiopian Roads Authority, will help to prevent and address the recurrent landslide challenges in Abay gorge.  

Ambassador Komano added that the project will assist efforts of the Ethiopian government to secure stable traffic flows in the area.
