BEIRUT (Reuters) - An Ethiopian Airlines plane was forced to return to Beirut airport 20 minutes after taking off on Thursday due to a technical fault, the second incident involving the airline in Lebanon this year.
In January an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737-800 crashed minutes after taking off from Beirut airport in stormy weather, killing all 90 people on board. An initial investigation ruled pilot error as the cause of Flight ET 409's crash.
The same flight, renamed ET 407 and carrying 78 passengers, returned to the airport after the pilot felt air coming in from one of the plane's doors, airport sources said.
The plane was a Boeing 737, but it was not clear if it was the same model as the crashed jet.
No one was hurt on board the plane, which eventually made its way to Addis Ababa a few hours later after technicians fixed the fault.
