Former Broward School Board member Beverly Gallagher, convicted on a federal bribery charge, was sentenced Wednesday to three years and one month in prison.
U.S. District Judge James Cohn delivered the sentence in the federal courthouse in Fort Lauderdale Wednesday morning after a weepy Gallagher apologized.
``I'm just so sorry,'' she said, crying. ``I never meant for this to happen. It was a huge mistake. I know I need to be punished for it.
``I let down all my constituents and the office I thought to be a privilege''.
Gallagher, 51, was also sentenced to three years of supervised release once she gets out.
