Gordon teams with other mayors to lobby for immigration reform

Mayor Phil Gordon has teamed up with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and other big city mayors to lobby the federal government for comprehensive immigration reform.

The "Partnership for a New American Economy" is being lead by Bloomberg and includes major corporate leaders such as the chief executive officers of Hewlett-Packard, Walt Disney Co., and News Corporation, which owns the Wall Street Journal and Fox News.

Gordon said the partnership will allow the dialogue about immigration reform to go beyond rhetoric and emotions to focus on federal policy.

"What we need to do is focus on bringing people together and how to get this comprehensive immigration reform and border security done," Gordon said.

Bloomberg announced the partnership Thursday with Rupert Murdoch, founder of News Corp. Others in the group include Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
