IIEC prepares to register prisoners ahead of vote

The Interim Independent Electoral Commission (IIEC) is preparing itself for another round of voter registration following a court directive to enlist prisoners.
The IIEC Chairman Ahmed Isaack Hassan said yesterday he had asked the Prisons Department to provide details of the prisoners.
However, Mr Hassan remained non-committal on how they will comply with the Constitutional Disputes Resolution Courts ruling.
"We have not decided yet whether to register them or not. We will know tomorrow (Friday) when we meet with the AG and Prisons Commandant," he said.
The electoral commission chairman said a similar meeting held yesterday resolved to first work out modalities and logistics before a final decision arrived at will be announced at a news conference.
