Jonathan inaugurates Jega

The new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof Attahiru Jega has been sworn in.

During the ceremonies Wednesday morning, President  Goodluck Jonathan advised him not to let down the nation and the world who all expect so much from his leadership.

Jega, dressed in white flowing was sworn-in alongside five other National Commissioners of the electoral body.

Jonathan urged the INEC umpire to reflect the radical stance, which he is more known for, in his discharge of duties at the electoral agency where he is expected to contribute towards a positive change that the entire country has been yearning for.

The President told the Professor of political science that he should not compromise his uncompromising stand in the course of discharging his responsibilities.

President Jonathan said he has so much confidence in the new INEC boss and is also happy that an activist is going to INEC to wring the needed positive change.

The president also said that since most Nigerians believe that the difficult electoral history of the country is the reason for the underdevelopment, "then as a country we must begin to repudiate this arbitrariness and there is no better time to start than now," Jonathan said.

The National commissioners sworn-in were Nuhu Yakubu from Yobe; Amaga representing Gombe; Gladys Nwakwo from Abia; Ismail Igbani from Rivers, Therma Eremere from Delta and Lai Olorode from Osun.
