Military, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa officials meet on security

PESHAWAR: Officials of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government met with military officials on Monday to discuss the security situation amid the on-going operation against militants.

Thousands of militants have reportedly been taking refuge on the outskirts of Peshawar after being ousted from their hideouts from Waziristan and Orakzai during the military operation.

“These militants are planning to launch attacks on Peshawar,” provincial minister for Information Mian Iftikhar Hussain told reporters after the meeting.

Meanwhile senior provincial minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour told DawnNews that additional batches of security forces have been deployed on the outskirts of the provincial capital to deal with any threats posed by the militants. Additionally, the provincial government will be carrying out a high-profile meeting to discuss the security agenda.

The areas where militants are reportedly gathering include Mohmand Agency, Khyber Agency and Darra Adam Khel.
