Kyrgyzstan's interim president had made an official request for military aid to halt the violence in the city of Osh, where 800 also have been injured

The interim government of Kyrgyzstan appealed to Russia to send troops to the south of the country in a desperate attempt to stop the ethnic riots that have rocked Osh, the second-largest city in the country, since Friday night and have so far claimed 69 lives, with more than 800 injured.Russia responded on Saturday, refusing to send military aid.
Interim President Roza Otunbayeva had sent an official letter to Russian President Medvedev and had a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to discuss the deteriorating situation in the country.
