(CNN) -- Authorities have launched an emergency response effort to help the victims of rain-triggered landslides in southern China that, by Wednesday night, had left 30 people dead.
Heavy rains began pounding China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Monday, triggering the landslides, said the Xinhua news agency.
More than 80,000 local people were evacuated from their homes by Wednesday night.
More than 2.1 million people in Guangxi were affected by the disaster and more than 4,200 homes had been damaged, Xinhua said.
