Prague - The Czech Republic will send a new 50-member training and consultancy unit to Afghanistan to train locals in Wardak province, the office of the military´s general staff chief told CTK today.
The Czech team is to leave for Afghanistan in September.
The Czech military has made the decision in reaction to NATO´s demand for training capacities in Afghanistan to be reinforced.
Czech participation in the mission was discussed by Giampaolo Di Paola, NATO Military Committee chairman, with tops of the Czech military and state in Prague today.
After his meeting with general staff chief Vlastimil Picek, Di Giampaolo said the Alliance will continue to mainly ask for contribution to the training of Afghan forces within the international operation in the country.
Di Paola would not say how many soldiers NATO would like from the Czech Republic, saying it is up to every member country to make a sovereign decision.
