(CNN) -- A Greek journalist was shot and killed Monday morning outside his apartment in a residential part of Athens, police said.
Someone knocked on journalist Sokratis Giolias' door and told him his car had been stolen, police said. When Giolias, 37, stepped out of his home, he was killed.
Initial reports said three men were involved in the shooting. The car that they escaped in was later found abandoned and torched, police said.
It had been reported stolen Saturday.
