Honecker sold GDR citizens to the West for medical tests

BY HARTMUT KASCHA

Notorious East German leader Erich Honecker sold GDR citizens for medical tests in exchange for foreign currency.
PILLS REVELATION!
The list of drugs is never-ending. Pharmaceutical companies from Western Europe tested the effects of new medications on East German patients up till the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. It was officially approved by Honecker's government, which secretly cashed millions of Deutschmarks from the scheme.
But the subjects knew nothing. Some even died. How sick does a system have to be to gain financial help in this way?!
"Whether remedies for angina, depression, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart problems – companies from West Germany, France, Denmark and Switzerland sent almost everything to the East,” Dr. Ulrich Moebius (72) told BILD yesterday. With other physicians, he wrote a secret report only now published in ‘Exakt’ magazine.
Hospital doctors all over the GDR – the German Democratic Republic – including the university hospitals of Jena and Leipzig, Charité in Berlin, the Bernburg psychiatric hospital and the Medical Academy of Magdeburg eagerly gave their patients the medications.
