Jail for lawyer aiding Egypt's Blind Sheik

NEW YORK, July 16 (UPI) -- A lawyer for the so-called Blind Sheik tied to the 1993 attacks on the World Trade Center was sentenced for aiding the terrorist leader, a New York court said.

Preet Bharara, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced that 70-year-old Lynne Stewart was sentenced to 10 year in prison for helping Omar Abdel Rahman deliver messages to his Egyptian terrorist group al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya, or the Islamic Group, while in prison.

The blind Egyptian cleric is serving a life term in a federal prison in North Carolina for his role in the 1993 bombings of the World Trade Center in New York City.
