A row over electoral irregularities is set to end in court after Moscow's northern area prefect Oleg Mitvol launched a suit against reporters who claimed to have uncovered thousands of fake ballots.
“We are suing the Novye Region website,” Mitvol told the Russian News Service. “It was actually quite a funny story. Novye Region published a completely delusional story, concerning 20 kilograms of [ballot] papers in the last elections”.
Details of the suit were made public at a Communist Party press conference last week, Gazeta.ru reported. Reports were that 20 000 fake ballot papers had been discovered in central Moscow after the city Duma elections last October.
