Police disperse PETA activists

Protestors were set to demonstrate against Dubai Zoo for alleged cruelty to animals

Dubai police on Thursday dispersed a group of activists from the People For The Ethical tratement of Animals (PETA) who were planning a demonstration near the Dubai Zoo.
The members, mostly from South East Asian division of PETA had planned to protest against the cruelty to animals caged at the Dubai Zoo.
The event was scheduled at 1.30pm. “The group even had plans for a man to wear condoms and parade himself in front of the Union Square as a mark of protest,” said one Dubai resident, who until recently was closely associated with PETA New York.
“These people who are unaware of the UAE culture want to create problems rather than raise awareness. The day I was informed about the plan I tried to dissuade them. The New York Office informed me that the South Asian division is incharge of the protest,” he said.
Meanwhile there have been criticisms about the way animals at the Dubai Zoo are being kept.
