Calderon 'indignant' over mayor's killing

MEXICO CITY, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- The killing of a Mexican mayor is "one more reason to fight drug trafficking," President Felipe Calderon said.

The president promised even greater efforts against the country's drug gangs at a meeting Thursday with members of Mexico's Congress. As he spoke, Edelmiro Cavazos was being honored in a ceremony in Santiago, where he served as mayor until being slain this week.

"Not only are we wounded by this, but we are indignant," Calderon said. "The death of Edelmiro is one more reason to fight drug trafficking by every means possible".

Cavazos, 38, was kidnapped Sunday by a group of men wearing police uniforms from a unit that has been shut down. His body was discovered Wednesday dumped by the side of a road, still tied up and gagged. UPI
