Community rallies after troops' loss

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 9 (UPI) -- North Carolina residents are aiding U.S. service members in Afghanistan who had all their personal property stolen during deployment there, officials say.

The belongings of 70 members of the Fort Bragg-based 519th Military Intelligence Battalion were shipped to Afghanistan in a military cargo container to await the troops' arrival, The Charlotte (N.C.) Observer reported Monday.

But when the personnel went to claim their belongings at Bagram Air Base two weeks ago, everything has been stolen and the container cleaned out, the newspaper said.

Since then, people in Fort Bragg and Charlotte have been rallying to resupply the stolen items. UPI
