OTTAWA, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Consumer prices rose 1.8 percent in Canada from July 2009 to July 2010, after a 1 percent increase in June, Statistics Canada said Friday.
Seven of the eight major components of the Consumer Price Index rose during the 12-month period.
Energy prices led the way, rising 7.9 percent July-to-July. Excluding energy, consumer prices rose 1.3 percent in July after jumping 0.9 percent in June.
Electricity prices were up 9.8 percent in July and gasoline rose 4.8 percent in the 12-month period.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, consumer prices were up 0.6 percent in July following a 0.2 percent decline in June, StatsCan said. UPI
