KABUL, Afghanistan, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- The Afghan driver for the humanitarian team killed in an ambush last week is being detained and questioned by Afghan authorities, officials said.
Investigators would not confirm if he was under formal arrest or suspected of colluding in the attack that killed 10 of 12 members of the multinational medical aid team in northeastern Afghanistan, the Los Angeles Times reported Monday.
Dirk Frans, director of the International Assistance Mission, a non-profit Christian group that has been operating in Afghanistan since 1966, said the organization was "devastated" by the killings.
"They were selfless professionals who volunteered themselves for the mission," Frans said.
Six Americans, a German, a Briton and two Afghans were killed in the ambush.
The attack would not deter the group from its aid efforts, Frans said. UPI
