Japan may boost security aboard its vessels in the wake of an alleged attack on a Japanese supertanker near the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil shipping route, a Japanese trade official said on Monday.
"We may be considering adding security and taking alternative routes, but this is just a consideration," said Hideichi Okada, vice-minister of international affairs in Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
He was speaking in Abu Dhabi.
