Jaroslaw Kaczynski, the losing candidate in Polish presidential elections, did not attend the inauguration ceremony for Bronislaw Komorowski on Friday, the PAP news agency reported.
Komorowski officially took the oath of office to become Poland's new president earlier on Friday.
Mariusz Blaszczak, leader of the Law and Justice party, said the twin brother of the late president Lech Kaczynski would not be going to the ceremony because of "contempt" shown to Jaroslaw's dead brother from some members of Komorowski's Civic Platform party.
Blaszczak said that Komorowski had not shown enough respect to the memory of Lech Kaczynski, whose death brought on the snap election in Poland.
Komorowski, a 58-year-old pro-EU, moderate member of the governing Civic Platform party, won the presidential runoff in early July with more than 53% of the vote, around 6% ahead of Kaczynski, who leads the conservative Law and Justice Party. RIA Novosti
