Kuwait has no plans to ban BlackBerry services but it has conveyed reservations to the Canadian manufacturers of the handset, the country’s Communications Minister Mohammed al Busairi was quoted as saying on Monday.
Busairi said his ministry is monitoring BlackBerry services and has been in touch with Research in Motion, which makes BlackBerry devices.
“We have conveyed to them our reservations and remarks concerning the security and moral aspect of the service…we are determined to ban indecent websites,” Busairi told the Kuwaiti daily Alanbaa.
“We are still in touch with that company directly and indirectly and with the service providers in Kuwait…but we have no plan to ban BlackBerry services for the time being…we will follow developments in the UAE and Saudi Arabia in this regard and will keep monitoring the mechanism of BlackBerry operations”.
The UAE has announced it would ban BlackBerry e mail, messenger and web browsing services from October 11 while Saudi Arabia is expected to take a final decision on Monday.
Two other Gulf countries-- Bahrain and Oman have ruled out suspension of those services. Emirates Business
