JERUSALEM, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- A program encouraging Israeli scientists abroad to return home offers monetary grants for research projects, education officials say.
Scientists willing to participate in the new program and work at newly-established centers of excellence in the nation's universities, will receive up to $500,000 in research grants, Haaretz said Tuesday.
The size of the grants will be based on specific needs of the different research projects, the newspaper said.
The plan was drawn up by the Planning and Budgeting Committee of the Israel Council for Higher Education, and was approved by the cabinet in March.
The project aims to prevent Israel's leading academics from leaving the Jewish state for more lucrative positions abroad, where they often enjoy large research grants and improved conditions, the report said. UPI
