3rd migrant survived Mexican massacre

MEXICO CITY, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- A third survivor of a massacre that left 72 migrant workers dead in northern Mexico could play a huge role in the investigation, El Salvador's president said.

President Mauricio Funes said the man was in the United States and "fortunately avoided being killed," CNN reported Monday.

Funes spoke of the survivor as the remains of 11 Salvadorans who were killed in last month's massacre were returned to their families.

Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa last week said a second man, a migrant from Honduras, also survived the attack, but his identity hasn't been revealed to protect his safety.

Another person, originally thought to be the only survivor, alerted police to the mass grave.
