KINSHASA, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- One river boat capsized and another caught fire in the Democratic Republic of Congo, leaving an unknown number of people dead, officials said Sunday.
Twenty-four people died when one boat capsized on the Ruki River in the country's northwestern province of Equateur, the BBC reported.
The Chinese news agency Xinhua said the U.N.-backed Radio Okapi reported government spokeswoman Rebecca Ebala said the death toll was at 15 with at least 60 missing after the boat hit a submerged tree trunk.
In the other incident, a cargo vessel carrying fuel and passengers on the Kasai River caught fire.It wasn't known how many people died.
The BBC said there may have been up to 300 people on board, while Xinhua pegged the number of passengers at about 100.
