MIAMI, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- The National Hurricane Center issued a tropical storm warning for the coasts of Maine and Nova Scotia, expecting the storm Earl to hit land Saturday.
Earl -- downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm -- was between Massachusetts and Halifax, Nova Scotia, at 5 a.m. Eastern Time and was moving in a northeast direction at about 30 mph with winds of 70 mph and gusts up to 110 mph, forecasters in Miami said.
The storm warning was discontinued for Nantucket, Mass., but Earl was expected to hit the Canadian Maritime with strong seas, high winds and up to 6 inches of rain.
The storm walloped Nantucket, Mass., with strong winds and up to 6 inches of rain, CNN reported.
Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Mercer said: "We're not exactly sure" when Earl would reach Canada.
