(CNN) -- Lee Westwood has given Europe a boost by declaring himself fit for next month's Ryder Cup showdown with the United States in Wales.
The world number three had been a doubt for the Celtic Manor showdown, having aggravated a calf injury he initially picked up at the French Open in June.
But the 37-year-old, who is Europe's highest-ranked golfer, said he has already contacted team captain Colin Montgomerie to assure him of his participation.
Westwood told his official website: "I have texted Monty to say 'Everything is going to be fine and I will be ready.
"You won't need to take a 13th man to Celtic Manor".
